Three Best Picture Books I Read in March
I set a goal at the beginning of the year to read 400 books. Before anyone assumes I'm some kind of reading-machine, this is a combination of picture books and chapter books. My main goal was to read an average of one picture book per day, plus 35 chapter books. A0s March approached, I was already about 80% behind on this goal. Pathetic.
While I've tried to catch up, I have read some pretty great picture books. My favorites so far:
Bunnybear by Andrea J. Loney; pictures by Carmen Saldaña.
A bear who feels more like a bunny seeks out bunny friends. A cute story about acceptance and being true to who you are. Love it!
Wolf in the Snow by Matthew Cordell.
Read this if you're into crying and sweet animal stories. [Disclaimer: no animals die in this book. I'd want to know...]
Two White Rabbits by Jairo Buitrago; illustrations by Rafael Yockteng; translation by Elisa Amado.
This is a reread for me, but it's so timely I couldn't put it down for something new. I love Buitrago and Yockteng's book, Jimmy the Greatest, and the idea that you don't have to be the 'greatest' to be great. This story of a young girl and her father's journey to the U.S. border makes your heart hurt and reminds us that adults are not the only people looking for a better life here.
Here's a complete list of picture books I've read in 2017.
